If you have a business entity, whether it is an LLC or a corporation, and are doing business in any different form of the name, then you may want to consider filing for a fictitious firm name (FFN), otherwise known as a DBA (doing business as).
For example, we are technically “Morris Law Center, LLC”. We filed an FFN with Clark County, the county we are in, for “Morris Law Center” without the “LLC” on the end. We had to do that in order to operate as Morris Law Center instead of always having to write “Morris Law Center, LLC”.
Another example, of course, is if you are literally using a different name for your business. If your business name is “Moonstone Tires, LLC” but you are doing business as “Best Tires”, then you’re absolutely going to want to file that FFN. Another thing the FFN does is it allows you to use and claim that different name. For the period that you have the FFN if someone else tries to use that name, you are in a much better position.
Filing a fictitious firm name in Clark County, Nevada, is not expensive at all and is very simple. It is a one page form and there’s a $25 filing fee.
